§ 2-61. Created; number and qualifications of members; term of office; vacancies; eligibility of members.

  • A Local Officers' Compensation Commission is created, which shall determine the salaries of all local elected officials. The commission shall consist of five members who are registered electors of the city, appointed by the mayor subject to confirmation by a majority of the members elected and serving in the legislative body. The term of office shall be five years, provided that of the members first appointed one term shall expire September 30, 1974, one September 30, 1975, one September 30, 1976, one September 30, 1977, and one September 30, 1978. Except for those initially appointed the terms of all members of the commission shall commence on October 1. Vacancies that occur in a position of compensation commissioner shall be filled for the unexpired term by appointment by the mayor, subject to confirmation by a majority of the members elected and serving in the legislative body. No member or employee of the legislative, judicial, or executive branch of any level of government or members of the immediate family of such member or employee shall be eligible to be a member of the commission, and in the event a member of the compensation commission becomes ineligible by reason of the terms hereof his position on the compensation commission shall be deemed vacant.
